ABOUT VIDEO:

This video is about my visit to Basantapur, also known as Kathmandu Durbar Square or Hanuman Dhoka. Basantapur holds immense cultural and historical significance in Nepal. It was once the royal palace of the Malla and Shah kings of Nepal and served as the seat of their power. The square is adorned with numerous palaces, temples, courtyards, and other architectural marvels, reflecting the rich and diverse architectural styles prevalent in Nepal over several centuries.

One of the prominent structures within Basantapur is the Hanuman Dhoka Palace, which dates back to the 16th century. The palace is named after the Hindu monkey god, Hanuman, and "Dhoka" means gate in Nepali. The palace complex consists of various courtyards, museums, and buildings showcasing intricate woodwork and carvings.

Another notable feature of Basantapur is the Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Kumari, the living goddess of Nepal. The Kumari is a young girl believed to be the incarnation of the Hindu goddess Taleju. Visitors can catch a glimpse of the Kumari through a small window, and she occasionally appears on the balcony during festivals.

Basantapur is also home to several beautifully crafted temples. The Taleju Temple, the Kasthamandap, and the Jagannath Temple are some of the notable ones. These temples showcase exquisite woodcarvings, statues, and pagoda-style architecture.

The square is a vibrant hub of cultural and religious activities. It attracts both locals and tourists who come to admire the architectural wonders, observe traditional rituals, and explore the nearby markets selling handicrafts, souvenirs, and local delicacies.
