My buddy Terrance and I are getting his Jeep Cherokee XJ on a Wagoneer 44 front and Isuzu 12 bolt rear end ready for the Rubicon Next week, and I gave him my old Wagoneer spare front shafts since I had previously put chemo 44 shafts in my 1983 jeep Wagoneer , but the short side was a CAD axle , so he needed a new inner for a non CAD axle. I had a Spicer 760 U joint here in the shop, so we slapped that in. I did use the Lisle U joint puller tool which to me looks like a tiger tool

If you are going chromos, then get full circle clips. Stock shafts, weld some washers over the top if you can.

As far as a dana 30 install goes , its the same thing as the 44 install, the XJ / TJ/ 30 shafts all use 760 joints too, with the exception of the mid to late 1980s XJ dana 30s used a 260 joint for the non- ABS variants . ABS had 760 joints (actually they used to be a 297 joint, but the 760 is the upgraded version)

If this was not a trail spare, I would have told him to buy the chromo outer too , and some full circle clips, since most front shaft breakage I see on 30s and 44s is usually from spitting out a cap. I also recommend welding some washers over the caps, sort of holds in the cap and helps the ear from deforming and spitting out the cap. Axle shafts are one time use anyway on a rock crawler.
