PlayStation Portal & Switch Killer? GameSir X2S Phone Gaming Grip

Описание к видео PlayStation Portal & Switch Killer? GameSir X2S Phone Gaming Grip

In this episode, we unbox & test out the GameSir X2s Type-C smartphone controller grip for the iPhone 15, Samsung Galaxy, and other USB-C-equipped phones & see if it is a PlayStation Portal Killer.

Devices such as the PlayStation Portal and Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED make it so easy for you to have quality gaming on the go. This demonstrates the gaming industry's desire to shift into being able to play console-quality games on the go. But one thing to remember is most of us have a device in our pockets that are as powerful, if not more so, then the Portal or the Nintendo Switch: smartphones. That's what GameSir is banking on with their new GameSir X2s Type-C Mobile Gaming Controller smartphone grip. Designed to give you tactile input while you play on the go, could this be a better way for you to play great games from PlayStation Portal?

The GameSir X2s features A, B, X, & Y face buttons, both an analog stick & d-pad on the left-hand side of the grip, & a second one on the right-hand side. And those analog sticks are not just any old analog sticks, they are actually Hall effects sensors. That means concerns about drift should be negligible.

To accommodate smartphones of different sizes, the USB-C port that interfaces with the phone itself is on a hinge to adjust for different heights. The grip also is spring loaded to expand to hold a variety of different phones. I tried my Google Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra & they all fit perfectly.

I started playing Sonic the Hedgehog and Comix Zone. When I tried to use the X2s on Sonic, it just kept taking me into a menu. No matter what I did or changed it never worked. The odd thing is that Comix Zone worked absolutely perfectly. I'm not sure if it's because Sonic is an older port and they never thought to code the game for use with a physical controller or what, but it never worked for me.

I downloaded the Game Pass app from the Google Play store next & got to testing. I had used Game Pass on the G8 previously on my S22 Ultra and it worked great, so I had high hopes for the X2s. I was able to launch into the app and play games, however, I had multiple issues with connectivity to the server for some reason. This is 100% a service and not a device issue, but it did make testing a bit of a challenge. When the connection stabilized I was able to play TMNT: Shredders Revenge and a few other titles without any issue. Button presses felt great, and both the analog stick and D-Pad worked wonderfully. You can definitely tell the buttons are microswitches as they have that telltale clicky sound.

Up next was testing PlayStation Remote Play. My theory about the poor performance on the PlayStation Portal was that it was less device-related & more service-related as I have had issues with remote play in my home for my PlayStation 4 to my PlayStation 5. I was hoping that S24 Ultra and the X2S would make a huge difference here, so it was time to put it to the test.

I fired up the PlayStation App and got right into Spiderman. Where i had buffering issues on my S22 Ultra, the S24 Ultra was buttery smooth. And I didn't even realize it until just now but I never tuned off Battery Saver Mode on the phone, so it wasn't even getting full power! To me this was a much better experience than previous attempts to use remote play!

Next up, I fired up some classic Disney Afternoon Collection. Once again, the overall performance was nothing short of exceptional. Button presses, D-Pad Inputs, and the analog stick all worked wonderfully, like super accurate! I was really impressed as this was legit the best Playstation Remote Play experience!

Finally, I launched MLB The Show 23 and this is where the Remote Play fell apart. There was a lot of lag and latency in this game, more than any other. Since pitching and hitting are both so timing focused this made the game very difficult to play. But again, this was a SERVICE not a HARDWARE issue, and the X2s performed admirably.

Why it RoX:
- Under $50
- Hall Effect Sticks
- Hall Effect Triggers
- Compact
- Works with Game Pass & PlayStation Remote Play

What could be improved:
- Not compatible with cases on phones
- Sonic wouldn't work
- A bit too small for my hands

Should You Buy One?
If you're looking to play cloud games on your smart phone, the X2s is a really stout device. The button presses, analog sticks, and D-Pad all worked very well for me in my testing. The X2s is fairly compact which could be a good or bad thing. For me, I prefer the size of the G8 Galileo they offer, but this was still very usable. If you want to play on the go and don't want to pay for a PlayStation Portal this is a very good option for the money.
