Ábreme la Puerta is one of the most traditional aguinaldos carols in Puerto Rico. Aguinaldos are intended to be sung very late at night throughout the month of December with the sole intention of waking up the owners of a house to receive food and drinks from them. The owners are supposed to invite the singers into their home, eat and drink with them, and hopefully join the group as they head to the next home; all in the spirit of celebrating Christmas. Translation: Open the door, I am on the street and people will say this is a snub. Dance to the rhythm, sweetie of my heart. Inside I see a covered shape. I don’t know if it could be a roasted piglet.
