Today we're taking the new Twin Comanche (Twinkie) by Shrike up for a short test flight around the stunning freeware Coco Point Lodge Airport. Shrike is a new division from Blackbird/Milviz, which focuses on budget level aircraft with less systems depth than Blackbirds releases.

Overall, I enjoy the Twin Comanche, the visual model is stunning, the sounds are fantastic, and the visual effects are nicely done too. When it comes to the flight model it's a bit of a mixed back at the moment. In general, it feels a bit sluggish and heavy, which in my opinion could be convincing for a twin-engined aircraft. However, the stall behavior feels very tame (it won't enter a spin even with full rudder) and the pitch behavior feels a bit strange, the aircraft feels very nose heavy and control movements feel a bit dampened. According to one of the developers the real Twin Comanche is famous for feeling nose heavy, however they will look into that and might refine the flight model.

I like the idea of a budget level division from Blackbird. Considering the Twin Comanche is about half of what a Blackbird release would cost, you still get quite a good aircraft for your money. It does exactly what the sales page says and I think with some improvements to its flight model it will be even better. And I'm certainly looking forward to further Shrike releases.
