The V-Tail Bonanza was initially introduced at the end of World War II in 1947. It was an incredible move forward in aviation meant for the average American to achieve the performance availed during the greatest war the world had ever seen. Up to that point the American public, and the rest of the world for that matter had very little to choose from in the world of aviation. The Bonanza offered performance close to that of the likes of the P-51 or the the P-47 but with economy and style.
The aircraft was designed to give the affluent executive or business owner the option to travel in speed and comfort and with a level of economy that the world of aviation had never seen.
It was equipped with landing gear that retracted like the fighter aircraft the military had and it was hearty enough to land on pastures or grass runways. At the time the aircraft was offered to the public the general consensus was that America would be an industrial paradise with most Factory or corporate organization would be located in rural America. The thinking was that executives would be traveling from remote rural locations via aircraft like the Bonanza. And this aircraft was the perfect design for that application.
In this Bonanza which was designed in the late 40s I can travel at near 200 miles per hour and only consume a little over 10 gallons of fuel per hour of operation. And from this video it is apparent that I can land it on a short grass strip.'
