Presenter: Michael Pry

Just as technology has far-reaching influence in both our individual and professional lives, so does cybercrime that seeks to exploit vulnerabilities in the very technology we use. Modern society is plagued by a host of new issues that include cyberbullying, theft of personally identifiable information, theft of medical records, theft of intellectual property and trade secrets and even public defacement of websites or denial of service attacks. There are many ways technology is used for the benefit of society and just as many ways that technology is exploited to the detriment of society. The topic of cyber crime has become one of the most important topics of our generation and will continue to be so for years to come.

In this webinar, we will explore the cyber threat landscape and the current and emerging threats that victimize institutions and individuals. We will dissect several real life cases to understand how the crimes were perpetrated, what vulnerabilities were exploited and techniques organizations and individuals can use to protect themselves today. Our webinar will cover 4 main topics:

1.History of modern of crime – Discuss how criminals evolve their tactics and exploit opportunities provided with the use of technology. We will review the exploitation of technology as well as the human factors exploited through social engineering

2.Definition of cyber-crime and review of several of the key laws that make certain acts criminal in nature.

3.Case review- We will explore several criminal cases that involved cyber crime and review the lessons learned from each case.

4.Understanding vulnerabilities and risk mitigation. We will review the most common vulnerabilities that exist today and discuss risk mitigation strategies and conclude with future gazing possible evolutions of technology that may introduce a new type of cybercrime.
