1979 MG B Mirror Brackets Replicas | Alumilite

Replicating side mirror parts for a 1979 MG B using products from Alumilite Corporation. This video demonstrates how to make a silicone mold and cast urethane plastic parts. These parts (mounting brackets) used to fasten the mirror to the car cannot be purchased separately, therefore a back up set was made in the event that these failed or cracked.

The steps in the process include:
Fastening the pieces onto a base and build a mold box
Seal the mold box with hot melt glue
Mix Alumilite High Strength 2 Silicone Rubber
Pour silicone into mold box encapsulating parts
Allow silicone to cure and remove mold from mold box
Remove originals
Mix Alumilite AlumiRes resin and add Alumilite Black Dye
Pour into High Strength 2 mold
Allow to cure for 20 minutes and demold replicas
