Money was reportedly taken under a state plan for construction workers using bogus death certificates of at least 23 villages in Chhindwara district, prompting the Madhya Pradesh government to launch an investigation. According to sources, under the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, a sum of Rs two lakh was taken from each of 23 persons in Bohnakhedi region using false death certificates. All of these individuals are said to be living.In the village of Bonakhedi, which has a population of 2,800 people, 106 death certificates have been issued in the last two years, according to authorities.
