Above La Villa in Val Badia towers the karst rocky Gardenacia plateau and the rifugio with the very same name. Rifugio Gardenacia is beautifully located with its panorama over Val Badia on La Crusc, Conturines, and more. Sassongher and Somamunt are close summits to reach - with Sassongher being a not so easy climb with cable supported ascent (via ferrata) - and Rifugio Puez is the closest refuge - also being quite a demanding roundtrip through this very special landscape. The area is part of the Parco Naturale Puez-Odles.
Time to explore the area was limited with a thunderstorm forecast in the afternoon, however, enjoying the hospitality of family Nagler at Rifugio Gardenacia is always worth a visit for lunch - you must try the Orzotto, like a risotto but made with barley. We recommend taking the steeper way sentiero #11 up like we did and #5 down.

Please, only go to the mountains well equipped - especially to the Dolomites, although this plateau does not require any special equipment. And, please, respect no fly zones - Parco Naturale Puez-Odles is like all natural and national parks in Italy such a no fly zone.
