The list of NBA centers who have acquired 30-point triple-doubles (with assists, not blocks) is illustrious. Wilt Chamberlain, king of statpadders, is obviously there a bunch. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, heck yeah. Don't know for sure, but Bill Russell probably did it a hunred times and then a hundred more times without actually getting the 10 points. Kevin Garnett. Chris Webber. Hakeem Olajuwon. Alvan Adams put up 47 while doing it, I don't even know who that is really other than that he's supposedly one of the greatest Suns players of all time. If you're looking for recent names, how about Joel Embiid? DeMarcus Cousins? Nikola Vucevic? And, oh yeah, Nikola Jokic.

You can add Bam Adebayo to that list. I figured it was just a matter of time before enough Heat players got hot that he would end up with a triple-double, but I didn't expect him to ANNIHILATE his previous career-high while doing it. You can pretty much forget about most of these assists (too many of them are lame Jokic-esque handoffs or simple passes, some of them were good though), the real triumph here is the 30 points. The only thing missing from his display was a three-pointer, other than that, this was the complete Adebayo scoring performance.

I don't want to get ahead of myself and say something like "we're witnessing the rise of the black Jokic right now", because that would be presumptive and hasty (not to mention that it would rob Adebayo of his beautiful individuality by comparing him with a superstar), but we're witnessing the rise of the black Jokic right now. Not just a black Jokic, but a black Jokic who can dunk the ball! Jokic has struggled a bit this season, and I'm starting to wonder if Adebayo didn't perform some crazy Nigerian kinda-Christian/mostly witchcraft ritual before the season started to sap Jokic of his powers and transfer them to himself.

More likely is that Jokic got fat over the offseason, while Adebayo put in the work and is now reaping the benefits. But is that even half as fun as a crazy ritual with spells and potions and stuff?

I hope his journey to the Hall-of-the-Thirty-Point-Scorers (as partially chronicled in the video for Duncan Robinson's performance tonight) went well. I want to chronicle his specific journey, but I just didn't have the time (or the energy). Why did all these Heat players have to time their career-highs to occur at exactly the same time? Frickin' Adebayo combined with frickin' Robinson and frickin' Kendrick Nunn to score frickin' one-HUNDRED points in this game. Not to mention Jimmy Butler, who ALSO got a triple-double. Who needs the Heat's old core of cruddy overpaid marginal role-players? They've got a new core and a new point-center to lead it.
