Every year around 2,000,000 lightning strikes occur in Germany. If an unprotected building is struck by lightning, the consequences are catastrophic. But even more distant lightning strikes can destroy electrical devices through overvoltages and cause severe damage.

The animated film that OBO BETTERMANN released as part of its "Protected to the power of 4" campaign shows the effects of lightning strikes and surges. It follows the lightning current make its way from the point of impact to the inside of a building.

The dangers of direct or distant lightning strikes are clearly shown: While enormous damage occurs in an unprotected building, the building equipped with lightning and surge protection systems remains undamaged - including its electrical systems and devices. The protection systems safely divert the lightning current and prevent any damage.
