In this video, we'll discuss how to choose the correct Unistrut parts for your application.

First, determine how much weight your channel will need to support and where that weight load will rest.

Take a look at the design load data for typical Unistrut channel connections to see how much weight can be supported, by a range of common fittings, in conjunction with various gauges of channel. Use this as the basis for your design.

Where your design goes from there, will largely depend on your application and your imagination.

Unistrut offers a wide range of fittings to ensure maximum design flexibility. From flat plate fittings, and angle brackets, to trolleys, pipe clamps, shelving brackets, beam clamps, post bases, seismic fittings, and more. The sky is the limit.

Once you've narrowed down your selection, you'll need to take a look at the catalog data to make sure it's still a good fit. Some parts have their own loading calculations. Make sure to take that into consideration when designing your support.

You will also need to consider what channel nut hardware to use. Consult the Maximum Allowable Pull-Out and Slip Loads chart, in the Nuts and Hardware section of the Unistrut Catalog, to determine the best channel nut thread size, channel nut, and corresponding hardware, for the gauge of channel you are using.

Now that we've determined the right parts for the job, we need to decide on a finish.

One last thing to consider is how fast you need your fittings. Keep in mind that the most readily available part finishes are electro-galvanized and perma-green, but there are plenty of finishes to choose from, including defender finish and stainless steel.
