The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards), Steven Drozd (bass, guitars, keyboards, drums, vocals), Derek Brown (guitars, keyboards, percussion), Matt Duckworth Kirksey (keyboards, percussion, drums) and Tommy McKenzie (bass). Coyne and Drozd have remained the band's only consistent members since 1991, with Coyne being the only remaining founding member following the departure of bassist and keyboardist Michael Ivins in 2021.

Transmissions From The Satellite is still one of my favorite Flaming Lips Albums. This introduced me to The Flaming Lips to be honest! It had a lot of great tunes and quirky sounding riffs and melodies here and there. They were very different coming out in the time where grunge was king! People can't seem to classify what kind of sound or genre the Flaming Lips were supposed to fall at. They were often described as psychedelic, but were they? So they were just labelled as Alternative. They had a lot of iterations during the years where members come and go and get replaced by new ones. But I mostly liked them during their Ronald Jones era there was something magical with them when Jones was around, let's just say they were more unique and had that distinct sound that only Ronald Jones can craft with his very unique way of playing the guitar which delivers an orchestration of dissonance and twinkly harmonies! 😊😊😊
