STORYLINE:
Mexico's former ruling party has won the support of two of the country's minor parties, building momentum for what many see as an inevitable return to power.
The Institutional Revolutionary Party signed a pact on Thursday with the union-backed New Alliance party and with Mexico's small Green Party.
On Thursday Institutional Revolutionary Party leader Humberto Moreira, expressed confidence that the new alliance will triumph in the upcoming presidential elections.
"I know well that together we will get electoral triumph on July 2012," Moreira said.
The two smaller parties are now all but certain to back the PRI's presidential candidate, widely assumed to be Enrique Pena Nieto, a former governor of the state of Mexico.
The PRI, who ruled the country for 70 years was defeated by the National Action Party in the presidential race in 2000 with the triumph of Vicente Fox, followed by current president Felipe Calderon.
