Mia Morris – melodramatic (official video)

I write a lot of songs that sound like I’m talking about other people. What I figured out after writing or co-writing over 100 songs is, I often look back at lyrics and realize they are things that I needed to hear. I decided the video for melodramatic, might best represent that idea by having the same person on both sides of the story. I plan on leaving the interpretation of exactly what takes place up to each viewer but in case you don’t make it through the entire video, I do want to say that creating unnecessary drama is like crossing the street without watching out for traffic :)

We shot most of this over two days and managed to only get kicked out of one location, (the hospital parking lot) but we did get a lot of sideways looks wherever we went. I want to give a very special thank you to my friend and double, Kendall Hollingsworth for putting up with all the strange directions and having to shoot every scene as both characters.

The recording of this song was done in the usual way with me playing all the tracks along with producing and mixing. I had two co-writers on the song in Smith Curry and Kaleb Jones. I wanted both the audio and the video to be melodramatic themselves so the lush harmonies, unhinged acting and various deaths in the video hopefully helped convey that. I’m 17 years old and I’m a professional musician. I try to play lots of instruments but the ones that I feel most at home on are drums, cajon and bass. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend a lot of my time writing and recording. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 6 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing music, keep loving it and keep getting better.
