Описание к видео Cornwall Heritage Trust presents 'Exploring Cornish Family History' – A Cornish Story Café

Researching family history is an engrossing, some might say addictive, pastime, but also a path to identity and a portal to better understanding the past.

In our latest Cornish Story Café, professional genealogist and social historian Dr Lesley Trotter explores the relevance of family history, outlines strategies for successful research and looks at how key features of Cornish history such as Methodism, mining and migration shaped Cornish family histories.

She also gives an overview of the different archives in Cornwall, the Cornish records that are available online, and the finding aids and local groups that can help with your research.

Dr Trotter is a social historian, genealogist and writer with a special interest in combining family history and academic research techniques to reveal the hidden stories of the past. Her PhD in Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter focused on the experiences of wives ‘left behind’ by emigrating Cornish miners in the 19th century, and is now published as The Married Widows of Cornwall. Lesley gives frequent talks, works with arts groups on community history projects, and has featured in podcasts, and on radio and TV.

She is an Associate of the Institute of Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter, an Associate of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA) and also holds an Undergraduate Advanced Diploma in Local History from the University of Oxford. She is also a trustee of the Devon and Cornwall Records Society.

Thank you to Dr Trotter for sharing her expertise in this fascinating talk, to Kresen Kernow for hosting us and to everyone who came along!
