In this She Sells Sanctuary guitar lesson video, I will show you note-for-note how to play all of guitarist Billy Duffy's extremely melodic guitar parts to this much loved classic by The Cult.

We will be using standard tuning just like the original recording.

Billy Duffy's effects laden intro to "She Sells Sanctuary" is a good pre-curser to the melodic riffing found through the rest of the song. This intro appears multiple times in the song as well.

When the band kicks in we continue with very melodic riffing consisting of melody notes played on the G string with the open D string underneath.

There is also an overdub of a G chord at the end of the riff. How Billy Duffy plays the song live is to not play that G chord until later in the song in order to let the dynamics build.

The main difficulty will probably be the fact that many of the riffs are very similar since they use the same style of playing. Your best bet is to listen to the song enough times so that you will be able to simply hum those melodies coming from the guitar. That will make it much easier to play along with the original recording and follow along with this lesson as well.
