Video clips and stills from our recent trip to Juárez - the largest and most dangerous city in Chihuahua, Mexico. The "War on Drugs" igniting cartel drug violence and the ever-increasing militarization of the US-Mexico border after September 11th (on both sides) made the city a war zone for several years. However in recent years peace & prosperity have slowly been returning to the area again and we wanted to see this rebirth for ourselves. We found that Juárez is in fact alive again; restored historic buildings, a thriving business district, murals and the many large-scale public art installations were impressive. People are downtown again; eating, drinking, dancing, shopping, living. There is a large paramilitary police presence all over the city, but a general feeling of peace in the air. There are still parts of the city left in decay, but for the most part, this city is on a rebound. We feel it's safe to visit again, but be careful out there.
