VO Fundraising concert to support education for autistic children
INTRO: A fundraising concert held on Sunday to support autism in Laos highlighted the joy and fun to be had by these children through the gathering of friends and parents of autistic children. According to President of the Association for Autism, Viengxam Sorinxay, the donations meant a great deal in supporting autistic children to get a better education at the Vientiane Autism Centre
STORY: The concert started early at 5pm and continued until 8pm. It attracted a large number of children both with and without autism to mark World Autism Awareness Day 2014 and it also enabled participants to make donations to support low income families with autistic children.
According to President of the Association for Autism, Viengxam Sorinxay, A person who contributes to the support of autism invests a valuable asset and creates a brighter future for these children. She said that 70 percent of the funds raised will be given to the education fund of the association and used especially for disadvantaged families of children with autism.
The charity concert started with an exciting dance performance by a group of autistic children. Led by their teachers the children put on a great show appreciated by all in the audience. A large number of Lao pop singers joined in the event contributing their songs and talents to entertain everyone who was there.
It is said that, more than 16 families of children with autism have benefited from the fund and over 17 million kip is handed out to these families every month. The Association for Autism and the Lao Journalists' Association jointly organised the concert, supported by Catholic Relief Services, the government of Australia, UFO Production, the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Laos and the Mercure Hotel.
