BEHIND THE SONG: DIVINE EXCHANGE
"I wanted to write a modern hymn that helps describe the Divine Exchange that took place when Jesus died on the cross.
According to Old Testament law, the penalty for sin was death. We deserved to die because of our sins, but Jesus gave His life on the cross and died in our place, taking our sin, our shame, our sickness, our loneliness, our guilt, our poverty, so that we could have life, and have it more abundantly.
In essence, Jesus took everything good that was rightfully His as the Son of God, and exchanged it for everything bad that we deserved because of our sin. (Isaiah 53:3-5)
My prayer is that as we sing this hymn, we will all get a better understanding of this 'Divine Exchange'". [DON MOEN]
