A lecture given to college students at the University of Illinois by Michael Rothberg (UCLA) on Art Spiegelman's second-generation Holocaust memoir MAUS. With discussion of debates about Holocaust representation, memory, and postmemory. The students had read both volumes of MAUS and a selection from Marianne Hirsch's essay "The Generation of Postmemory."

Michael Rothberg is the 1939 Society Samuel Goetz Chair in Holocaust Studies, Chair of the Department of Comparative Literature, and Professor of English and Comparative Literature at UCLA. He has been teaching and writing about MAUS for twenty-five years and is the author of Traumatic Realism: The Demands of Holocaust Representation, Multidirectional Memory: Remembering the Holocaust in the Age of Decolonization, and The Implicated Subject: Beyond Victims and Perpetrators. With Neil Levi, he edited The Holocaust: Theoretical Readings.
