The BEST Computer Motherboard of ALL TIME - ASUS Rampage Extreme X48 (LGA775) Unboxing & Overview

Описание к видео The BEST Computer Motherboard of ALL TIME - ASUS Rampage Extreme X48 (LGA775) Unboxing & Overview

I think this will be the climax of my Legendary Motherboards series of videos. I have always considered the original Rampage Extreme from Asus as the Best motherboard of all time because it truly was above all others back then during LGA775 days. LGA775 was an Intel platform for everyone with lifespan from 2004 all the way up to late 2010. It was exceeded by X58 and P55 in very late 2008 and early 2009. During 775 the mainstream and enthusiast chipsets co-existed on the same platform.

The Rampage Extreme obviously features the enthusiast Northbridge chipset so the X48 chipset that has a lot better performance in all situations compared to the mainstream chipsets like the P35 and P45 chipsets with their sub-chipsets. Back in those days the Northbridge of the motherboard was almost like a second CPU in the whole rig, featuring many of the features of modern CPUs in the motherboard, like the memory controller (MCH), possible internal graphics and so on. So the motherboard itself determined what features you would have in your system. The enthusiast chipsets so X38 and X48 have much better performance and memory capabilities than the mainstream P35/P45 chipsets and they can run Command Rate 1 (CR1) pretty much always, whereas the mainstream chipsets are generally limited to Command Rate 2 only. Only thing that makes the mainstream chipset better performance wise is the higher range on the FSB (Front Side Bus), therefore being required for CPU-z validations and Superpi 1M runs with some very limited CPUs like the E8400.

The Rampage Extreme combines all the highlights of that era. Strongest memory capabilities for taking your DDR3 to the highest frequency levels possible with the fastest LGA775 chipset (X48), and being able to reach front side bus (FSB) speeds far above all others in the competition. With one of my other Rampage Extremes the record has been set on both of these figures, at 710 FSB by SF3D back in 2010 with the Northbridge on water, and CPU on LN2. And memory ranging at 2180-2260MHz with 6-7-5 timings with the Northbridge running just on air cooling. The quality variance between motherboard samples back in the day was just huge.

On this video we go through about the performance aspects of the LGA775 platform, how things have evolved and what makes this motherboard so special compared to other board models of that era, and take a look at all of the accessories and features of this extreme LGA775 X48 motherboard.
