DJ Starting From Scratch has never shied away from discussing the anxiety he has felt while djing these last few years..

And what's interesting is how, when Scratch came out and told the world how he was feeling, the number of DJs and artists who responded with, "I feel that way, too."

We are never really alone in how we feel, but sometimes feel like we cannot express ourselves for whatever reason. Our feelings are normal and natural, and it's unfortunate that more folks don't feel safe or comfortable sharing these emotions. Maybe, in future, with more people like Scratch normalizing sharing these feelings and experiences, more folks will feel greater comfort in sharing and also in seeking help in overcoming some of what they are feeling.

And while dealing with anxiety can be challenging, there are several strategies that individuals can try to manage and reduce their anxiety levels. Here are some effective ways to cope with anxiety:

1. Deep Breathing: Practice deep breathing techniques, such as diaphragmatic breathing or the 4-7-8 method, to activate the body's relaxation response and reduce anxiety.
2. Mindfulness and Meditation: Engage in mindfulness practices or meditation to stay present and avoid dwelling on anxious thoughts. It helps cultivate a calmer state of mind.
3. Regular Exercise: Physical activity can release endorphins, which are natural mood lifters, and help reduce stress and anxiety levels.
4. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Consider seeking professional therapy, specifically CBT, which can help identify and modify negative thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to anxiety.
5. Limit Caffeine and Alcohol: Reduce or avoid the consumption of caffeine and alcohol, as they can exacerbate anxiety symptoms.
6. Adequate Sleep: Ensure you get enough sleep regularly, as sleep deprivation can worsen anxiety. And, as artists and DJs, we sometimes really lack in the sleep department.
7. Social Support: Talk to friends, family, or a support group about your feelings and concerns. Sharing your thoughts can provide comfort and perspective.
8. Limit Exposure to Triggers: If certain situations or environments trigger anxiety, try to limit exposure or develop coping mechanisms to handle them better.
9. Time Management: Create a structured daily routine to better manage stress and reduce feelings of overwhelm.
10. Positive Self-talk: Replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations and realistic perspectives. Sometimes this takes practice -- but keep at it.
11. Hobbies and Relaxation: Engage in hobbies or activities that you enjoy and find relaxing, such as reading, painting, gardening, or listening to music.
12. Seek Professional Help: If anxiety is significantly impacting your life or if you find it challenging to cope on your own, consider consulting a mental health professional for personalized guidance and support.
13. Use the supplement GABA: GABA helps to counteract anxiety and stress by inhibiting overactive brain signals associated with fear and worry. This is why some anti-anxiety medications target GABA receptors to promote relaxation.

Remember that everyone's experience with anxiety is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. It's essential to find a combination of coping strategies that suit your individual needs and lifestyle.
