🎯 Speaker

Role Purpose:
The Speaker practices public speaking by delivering a prepared speech to the club.

What the Speaker Does:

Prepares a speech based on a project, theme, or assignment

Practices voice, body language, eye contact, and structure

Delivers the speech within the assigned time

Listens carefully to feedback from the evaluator

What the Speaker Learns:

Confidence speaking in front of others

Organizing ideas clearly

Expressing thoughts with impact

In a Gavel Club:
Speeches are often shorter, more supportive, and may include:

Storytelling

Show & tell

Opinion speeches

Leadership or confidence-building topics

📝 Evaluator

Role Purpose:
The Evaluator helps the Speaker improve by giving constructive, respectful feedback.

What the Evaluator Does:

Listens carefully to the Speaker’s speech

Takes notes on:

Strengths (what worked well)

Areas for improvement

Delivers a spoken evaluation that is:

Kind

Specific

Encouraging

May follow a simple evaluation form or checklist

What the Evaluator Learns:

Active listening

Critical thinking

How to give positive, helpful feedback

In a Gavel Club:
Evaluations focus on:

Encouragement over criticism

Clear examples

Age-appropriate language

Growth mindset (“You are improving…”)

🧭 General Evaluator

Role Purpose:
The General Evaluator evaluates the entire meeting, not individual speakers.

What the General Evaluator Does:

Observes how the meeting is run

Listens to:

Evaluators

Meeting roles

Transitions and timing

Provides feedback on:

Organization and flow

Time management

Energy and engagement

Leadership and teamwork

What the General Evaluator Learns:

Leadership observation skills

How meetings function as a team effort

How to give big-picture feedback

In a Gavel Club:
The General Evaluator:

Uses simple language

Highlights what the club did well

Suggests 1–2 improvements only
