iSEE’s sixth Critical Conversation in Chicago will focus on agrivoltaics, with invited stakeholders discussing solar farming on cropland, relevant challenges, and potential solutions to better integrate solar energy with agriculture in the Midwest. Karen Maguire, Research Agricultural Economist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Economic Research Service, will present the keynote address, “Solar Development in Rural Areas: Examining the Trade-Offs,” scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Illini Center, 200 S. Wacker Drive, Chicago. Maguire works in the Conservation and Environment Branch of the Resource and Rural Economics Division of USDA's Economic Research Service, and her research has focused on the effectiveness of renewable energy and climate change policy, as well as the effects of energy development on local economic outcomes, community well-being, and bird populations.
