When I got back, I had to make my own version. I swapped custard for a whipped mascarpone cream, made a quick compote with brown sugar and lemon, added homemade lemon curd, and layered it all with soft vanilla cake. No oven needed. Just chill it and let the flavors settle in.

This dessert’s got everything: tart, sweet, creamy, and fresh. It’s nostalgic and unfussy—the kind of recipe that’s just about good ingredients coming together in the right way. It’s more than a trifle—it’s a little piece of home layered in a dish.
