BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — In the wake of Wednesday’s deadly shooting of three law enforcement officers in York County, local county sheriffs are speaking out regarding officer safety.

Blair County Sheriff James Ott says that any time they are serving any type of paperwork, there is potential for a situation to become dangerous.

Sheriff Ott says that this could cover anything from warrants to civil process paperwork or foreclosure sales.

Ott says that prior to serving any type of paperwork, sheriff departments try to gather as much intelligence information as possible on the individual and the location.

He says that when serving paperwork, there is no set number of officers that have to go.

Sheriff Ott explains that, generally, they try to send a minimum of two officers, and in some more major incidents, there will be multiple law enforcement involved.

He says that although at times they may send multiple law enforcement, an incident can still turn into tragedy.
