Metric System
Myanmar is one of only three countries in the world that has not adopted the metric system of measurement. The other two holdouts are Liberia and the United States

Pagodas
Temples and pagodas found throughout Myanmar were built during the 12th and 13th centuries under the Pagan Empire as Theravada Buddhism spread throughout the country. Today 89 percent of the population of Myanmar is Buddhist.

Kayan Lahwi
Women of the Kayan Lahwi tribe in the Shan state are known for wearing neck rings: brass coils placed around the neck, appearing to lengthen it. The coils actually depress their collarbones rather than elongating their necks.

Longyi
The traditional dress in Myanmar is Longyi, a wraparound dress which is worn by both men and women in the country. Women fold the cloth over and secure at the side while men tie it in the front.

Taung Kalat
A Buddhist monastery called Taung Kalat sits atop a volcanic plug rising 558ft above the slope of Mount Popa, the 4,980ft volcano on which it stands. Volcanic plugs like Taung Kalat are formed when magma hardens within a vent of an active volcano.

National Habit
In Myanmar chewing betel turns out to be the favorite habit and almost all does that. You can easily find betel shops at every street corner.

The Largest Book In The World
Myanmar holds the title of housing the world’s largest book. The book contains over 700 large marble slabs. Located in Kuthodaw Pagoda in Mandalay, a Buddhist stupa contains this piece of literature.

Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi, the politically charged daughter of national hero Aung San, spent a total of 15 years under house arrest between 1989 and 2011. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for her “non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights”.

Ramree Island
In January 1945, the Allies launched an attack to retake Ramree and its neighbour Cheduba Island, to establish airbases on the islands for the supply of the mainland campaign. There have been reports of Japanese soldiers being eaten by saltwater crocodiles living in the inland mangrove swamps; the Guinness Book of World Records has listed it as "worst crocodile disaster in the world" and "most number of fatalities in a crocodile attack
