Tomás Ryan is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (starting December 2016) and a Senior Research Fellow in the group of Susumu Tonegawa (Nobel Laureate 1987) at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory and Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Ryan received his Ph.D. in molecular neuroscience under Seth Grant at the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in 2009, funded by a Wellcome Trust PhD Fellowship. His doctoral research involved an integrative investigation of NMDA receptor function using novel mutant mouse models informed by molecular evolutionarily analyses. Following a year as Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge, he relocated to MIT to research the behavioral neuroscience of memory storage and retrieval. His research at MIT has contributed to the development of engram technology and has challenged conventional neurobiological models of how long-term memories are stored in the brain.

On December 1st, he gave a TEDMED 2016 talk in Palm Springs.
