In the Winter of 1999, dj Raedawn Phoenix (Øs Crunc Tesla) invented the first known documented System of Notation for DJ music. He self published this book, calling it "The Fundamentals", and presented a physical copy to filmmaker John Carluccio and industrial designer Ethan Imboden with whom he had heard were working on a similar unreleased system.
These 3 skratch enthusiats joined forces to create the system known as the "Turntablist Transcription Methodology 1.0" and released the book on February 17, 2000 at Symphony space in New York.

This system rivals classical monastic derived "note" notation that is based on time being bundled into a symbol making it a "symbolic" form of notation. The Fundamentals/TTM uses time as a distance and is a "Wave" based notation as opposed to "Particle" based classic symbols. The Particle Wave Duality seen in Quantum physics mirrors the way we as musicians can Describe Music. This wave based notation is more accurate when dealing with instruments that are based in Modulation such as the Turntable, Trombone, Strings, Theremin, Effects Pedals etc. Previously, composers would merely add these complex movements and sounds into classical annotations in or under the staff that are completely insufficient having been created for the European Monastic Tradition.
