Software: Rhino 6

In this student requested video-tutorial, I show one approach to create a simple fitted or ‘shadow’ wedding ring.

Using Rhino 3D, I talk you through the ‘Project and Double Flow’ method. We’ll see how to reverse engineer and refine the geometry from the side of the existing ring model and use it to map the inside edge of our fitted wed.

Then, it’s a simple matter of Sweep1 for the win! Many thanks to Susan, one of my online-interactive bespoke CAD students, for suggesting this topic.

Featured key commands include:
Project
Flow
Rebuild
Sweep1

Note: The project and double flow method is a common workflow I use for creating fitted wedding rings but it will not necessarily work in all scenarios. It's just one weapon worth keeping in your arsenal that can also be applied to other surface modelling problems.
