Der Geher in Hamburg: Othmarschen

I am Der Geher and it is summer. So today the walk starts at the Elbe beach at Hindenburgpark in Othmarschen. A little along the beach it goes up to the Elbchaussee and past the consulates of Korea and China. In the Jenischpark is the hut amicis et qvieti (To the pleasures and leisure), as well as the museum in the Jenisch House, the Ernst Barlach House and the Bargheer Museum.

Martin Johann Jenisch was a merchant and senator in Hamburg. He had the Jenisch House built in 1831 by architect Franz Gustav Forsmann. The senator lived with his family mainly on the second floor. Today, the house is a museum of Hanseatic living culture. Around the house, the Jenischpark was created on 42 hectares under the direction of Caspar Voght. However, the park was often redesigned. Especially in the southern part, many wetlands along the Flottbek River are now designated as nature reserves.
