FAQ: "What shelves are you using?"

The main shelves are IKEA Finnby shelves, but I modified them a bit so that I could install more shelves per unit. I had to buy extra Finnby units to "poach" the extra shelves, but since they're only $30 per set it still was more cost-effective than buying their "Billy" series (the most popular ones they sell). In white, they're called Gatsby... I think.

The shelves up top are IKEA Mosslanda picture ledges, but I have installed them upside down. That gives them a flat top where I can display my game boxes, and a lip underneath that is perfect for hiding an LED light strip :)

On either side of the main shelves, I have two tall/narrow Billy shelves, acting as "pillars" on either side of the room. They are perfect for displaying mini consoles.

Finally, the Handheld wall is also using Mosslanda picture ledges, but installed correct-side-up which is perfect for holding handheld consoles without using any additional stands or mounts.

Oh, and the game consoles are in an IKEA Kallax - usually, these are only square cubbys, but there's one model that does cubbys of lots of different sizes and shapes, which lets me fit everything from a tiny top-loader NES to a massive Atari 5200 in the unit.

The most important thing if you decide to use the Finnby/Gatsby shelving is that, when assembling it, don't install the "permanently attached" middle shelf. Instead, drill your own holes and place shelves where you want them to go - then you can maximize space usage :)
