Carry Me Home by Simon Powis for Two Guitars

Описание к видео Carry Me Home by Simon Powis for Two Guitars

Simon wrote this duet inspired by the brilliant
people at the 2018 Summer School. The melody has
a longing character to it and is carried forward by
the perpetual syncopated rhythms of the accompaniment
that only comes to rest in the very last phrase
of the piece.
While guitar 1 carries the melody for most of the
piece, guitar 2 also has a beautiful melody in the
bass register in the middle of the piece. We recommend
playing the majority of guitar 1 in and around
the 7th position (while guitar 2 plays mostly in 1st
position throughout). The sixteenth-note / dotted-
eighth rhythm in guitar 1 has an almost ornamented
feel to it and in general the sixteenth notes
should be light and snappy -- be sure they are quick
and don’t lag behind but also that they have a free
character proper to the melody. Guitar 2’s syncopated
rhythms will need to be carefully worked out
using subdivision to ensure you get the feel so you
can make the pulse consistent throughout.

This video is performed by Dave Belcher and Nicoletta Todesco and recorded at Yale University by Matthew LeFevre and Benjamin Schwartz.
