AI models are running out of internet to consume. Something we don’t really think about is how vast the internet is. I mean just imagine the work of millions of people uploaded to this thing we call the internet daily. It's mind blowing but even that insane source of data has its limits. You see AI right now is running into a new problem: AI models are running out of fresh internet to consume. Because of the large amounts of data that is used to train models like chatgpt these models are constantly fed data to develop into new models like gpt 4 or the upcoming gpt 5. and now because of how much of the public internet has already been used by these models they are starting to have trouble finding new information to consume leading to the possibility of synthetic data poisoning their models. Synthetic data can be kind of difficult to understand so to explain this phenomenon I’ll use the movie inception as an example. In the movie Inception the main characters can go into people's dreams. It’s wacky I know but it's pretty cool in the movie. and they can even go into dreams within dreams but the problem is the more dreams they go into the more dangerous their journey becomes because the deeper into dreams the main characters go the more likely it is for the dreams to break down and it becomes hard to tell what's real and what's fake the more time you spend in a dream. This breakdown can happen to AI models if they are fed synthetic data which is basically just AI output. So if AI models keep constantly consuming AI content, something that the internet is riddled with at the moment. The models can collapse and become completely unreliable. There is no perfect solution to this problem except one which is to start giving AI data that's outside of the public internet which I’ll talk about that in another video because it can be a disaster depending on how it’s handled but for now something interesting to keep in mind is that
