Where can you spend the day observing incredible wildlife… and come home to this? It’s the White Lion Lodge!

The White Lion Lodge is located about three hours east of Cape Town in the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve.

It’s about a thirty-minute drive on a gravel road from the reserve entrance to the lodge.

White Lion is actually a private home which is available to visitors three weeks of each month.

There are just four units available, so no more than eight guests at a time.

Your all-inclusive rate includes all meals and beverages AND two safaris each day, expert guide included.

We had originally planned this stay for January 2022, but needed to cancel due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 reported to the World Health Organization by South Africa in late 2021.

A that time, there were two majestic white lions living on the reserve. Unfortunately, they both died—- the same week—- in September 2023, before we could visit Sanbona.

When you first arrive, lunch is served on the porch deck with the other guests.

Your suite is ready for you soon after lunch. See a complete suite tour later in this video.

Some time between three and four o’clock, it’s time to head out for the afternoon safari through the southern end of the reserve.

Midway through the afternoon safari, your guide with prepare a sundowners picnic for you.

After about three hours of touring the Klein Karoo, you’ll head back to the lodge and prepare for dinner. You could shower outside as the sun sets…. Or, you could shower indoors as well.

Cocktails are flowing by 7:30, and dinner is served around eight.

We found the food—- and South African wines—- to be wonderful.

The next morning, grab a quick coffee and then out you go! The morning safari heads north to see the elephants and giraffes at 5:30 in the morning.

Midway through that tour, your guide will set up a light bush breakfast. There will be a full breakfast waiting at the lodge when you return.
