A criminal would be tied to the end of a cannon and then this was fired, which would cause devastation and instant death. This was one of the worst execution methods in history, and it struck great fear into people who watched the execution. Cannons themselves were incredibly powerful, and they would lead to horrifying scenes. The British used this to deal with Indian Rebellions and killed dozens of people in this way. Blowing from a gun/cannon was even used in the 1900s in Afghanistan, and was a horrifying way to die.
