Tropical Storm Ida is in the Caribbean, near the Cayman Islands. It formed from Tropical Depression 9. Ida will strengthen as it heads toward the Gulf and the western tip of Cuba on Friday and then enter the Gulf on Saturday. The current data has the center of Ida targeting the Louisiana Coast for a possible landfall late Sunday. It could easily have winds over 100mph. A hurricane is not a single point and that US landfall is still days away so there is latitude in where it may strike, and how strong and large it will be. Everyone from the upper Texas coast to the Florida Panhandle needs to stay updated. Threats will include storm surge, heavy rain, extreme wind, and possible tornadoes. Many of these impacts will be away from the center of the storm so don't just focus on the center of the forecast cone as the only area under threat. Watches will be issued Friday to outline where hurricane-force winds, and storm surge is likely.
