By Jerry Askin A Chattanooga university is taking action to expand its campus and ensure increased security for students.Tennessee Temple University is working with the city of Chattanooga, taking action,  to make sure its campus is safer for students."We are currently in the permitting process with the city and we're also working with various land owners to get right aways for some enclosure of our property," says Dr. Steve Echols, president of Tennessee Temple University.Dr. Echols says they're wanting to purchase nearby homes in their urban growth area....only to add more property to their campus. "We don't have a large land area. This gives us more green space, more flexibility, we do have a growing enrollment and we want to project out to the future," says Dr. Echols.Jarrett Smith is a senior at Tennessee Temple University."I feel like the bigger the campus, the more people will know we're  here," says Smith.He's one of more than 300 residential students on campus this fall... many in favor of any expansions to improve the University and make it more campus friendly.  He also supports the University's efforts to improve security."As far as on campus, like from block to block near the dorms....we feel pretty safe.  It's just around the area is pretty bad, so that's why they brought in more security for us," says Smith.It's all something former professor Jill Beard supports."I think that would give a sense of security to the students," says Beard.Kerry Hrhyor lives not to far from the University.  She's not in support of her home being sold, but says for the right price and a good cause, she'll consider it."If everything is on sale for the right price.... I suppose," says Hrhyor.There are no immediate plans to buy any property as of now. But, President Echols say it's in their long term goal to expand the campus and make it safer. Their planned unit development (PUD)  area is Hawthrone Street to Beech Street and Bailey Avenue to Anderson.
