Company of Heroes: Battle of Crete#24 - Maleme

This is the Twenty-Fourth video in game Company of Heroes.It's a real-time strategy video game series developed by Relic Entertainment. It's release on 12 September, 2006. Company of Heroes: Battle of Crete is a modification for Company of Heroes. Mod based on real historical event during WW2 between May 20 and June 1 1941 as known as "Operation Mercury".

Today I'm have mission to defense 'Maleme'. It's Part of the Battle of Crete in the Battle of Greece and the Mediterranean theatre of the Second World War.

Maleme (Μάλεμε) is a small village and military airport to the west of Chania (Χανιά),the capital of the Chania regional unit. It lies along the north west coast of the island Crete in Greece (Ελληνική Δημοκρατία).

On May 20th 1941, The Germans used gliders at Maleme, with the intention of landing the troops in the gliders to initially gain control of the ground, and then the bulk of the troops and heavier equipment would be brought in using the Junkers Ju 52 transport planes landing at Maleme airport. Gliders were launched from their towing transport plane offshore with the Germans intent on keeping the transport planes away from the anti-aircraft positions on the Island. The German gliders appeared in the sky over Maleme. This was followed up by German transport planes that began emptying paratroopers and supply canisters. This was West Group under the code-name "Comet", commanded by German paratroop general Eugen Meindl. The allied forces in the area were the 21st, 22nd and the 23rd battalions of the New Zealand Army, based at the Maleme airport and surrounding areas.
