Описание к видео He Was the Reason Rockford Files Was Cancelled

Did you know that The Rockford Files was canceled predominantly because of the toll that it's stunts were taking on star James Garner, or did you not realize that the screen legend had always insisted on performing his own stunts? The Rockford Files premiered in 1974, and it was largely inspired by star James Garner’s previous successful series from the 1950s, which was called Maverick. Both shows featured James as a titular down-on-his-luck character that ended up winning the audience over with his charm in one way or another. The character of Bret Maverick was a card player, while Jim Rockford was a private investigator.

The Rockford Files quickly became one of the most popular series of the 1970s, both thanks to James’ titular performance in the role of Jim Rockford, as well as the show’s impressive stunts. As was traditional for James in his career up until that point, he insisted on doing all of his own stunts for The Rockford Files. While this proved successful for the aging actor, the stunts began taking a toll on his body in a way that they never had on any previous production.

By the time of The Rockford Files’ sixth and final season, the doctor had advised James Garner that it was time to take a break from performing his own stunts. James knew that this meant he was going to have to give up playing the character of Jim Rockford. When he revealed the news to NBC, they decided they couldn’t carry on the show without its star.
