One reason that you may want to do this, is to add a slicer to your financial report so that you can set the report always to show a given number of fiscal years, relative to the current one. There are other reasons too. For example, if you wanted to add a DAX Measure to calculate the profit for last Fiscal Year, all you need to do is add a date filter where the Relative Fiscal Year = -1.
