In the late 1970s, TP Sasthamangalam came to the scene as a film song critic. The first article was published in the periodical 'Rashtra Prabha, and its article writing, which had only a few copies, caught the attention of many people. According to the suggestion of journalists S. Jayachandran Nair and N. R. S. Babu, he reached the mainstream by writing for 'Film Magazine'. Lyric criticism as a literary discipline was pioneered in Malayalam by TP Sastamangalam, the only lyric critic in Malayalam who has been continuously writing lyrical criticism for over 35 years.
His song studies became a book titled 'Kavyageetika'. The book is an enjoyment of selecting 100 pearls of Malayalam songs and includes a simple song. He has recently retired from the Food Corporation of India.
