📌 1. What is a Material Type?
Material Type in SAP defines:


Allowed material attributes (valuation, quantity updating, procurement type)
Number range (internal/external)

Field selection
Screen sequence
Default settings (price control, UoM)
Which transactions are allowed (PO, production, etc.)

🛠️ 2. Configuration Steps – Material Type (ROH: Raw Material)

Step 1: Define Material Type
Path:
SPRO → IMG → Logistics - General → Material Master → Basic Settings → Material Types → Define Material Types
T-Code: OMS2
✔ Steps:


Click New Entries (if you are creating a custom material type like ZROH).


Otherwise select existing material type: ROH (Raw Material).

Maintain:

Qty/Value update: Active for your plant

Price Control: Standard price (S)

Consumption posting: Allowed

Procurement: External (F)

Field selection groups: Set Required/Optional/Suppress fields

Step 2: Assign Number Range to Material Type
A. Define Number Range
T-Code: MMNR
Here you create internal/external intervals.
Example:

B. Assign Number Range to Material Type
Still inside MMNR, select your material type:


Material Type: ROH

Assigned Number Range: 01

💡 ROH materials will now automatically get numbers in interval 01.

🏗️ 3. Create Raw Material in SAP
T-Code: MM01
You can also use MM01 → Create Material Master.
✔ Steps:

Enter Industry Sector → (M – Manufacturing)

Enter Material Type → ROH

System automatically proposes internal number

Select Views:

Basic Data 1 & 2

Purchasing

MRP 1–4

Accounting 1 & 2

Costing 1

Maintain required fields:

Basic Data

Material Description: Raw Material – Plastic Granules

Base UoM: KG

Division: 00

Purchasing View

Purchasing Group

Order Unit


MRP 1–4


MRP Type: PD


Lot Size: EX


Procurement: F (External)


Accounting View


Valuation Class: 3000 (Raw Materials)


Price Control: S


Standard Price: Enter price


✔ Save → Material created successfully.

📊 4. Display Material Master Reports
✅ A. MM60 – Material List
T-code: MM60
Shows complete list of materials for material type ROH.
Filters:


Material Type ROH


Plant


Created by


Material group



✅ B. MM03 – Display Material Master
T-code: MM03
Display full master views of the created raw material.

✅ C. MB52 – Stock Overview
T-code: MB52
Shows list of materials with stock quantities.
Filters:


Material Type ROH


Plant/Storage Location



✅ D. MB51 – Material Document List
T-code: MB51
Shows all movements related to your raw material:


Goods receipt (101)


Goods issue (201/261)


Transfer posting
