Then a late night quiz show
then nothing at all

We passed a back marker
I looked over my shoulder
At the precise moment
It was caught in the lights
of an oncoming road-train
which lit up the driver
and the fella beside her

She was gripping the wheel
you could tell she was crying

Then the truck dipped its lights
and she snapped back to black
And we were quiet after that

What is it that makes
a person a liar?
The curve of a thigh or
numbing old aches
The panic of ageing,
covering mistakes

We walk out on the wire,
