SUNY Downstate College of Medicine graduate Dr. Schwartz discussed issues covered by her new book, which address the question, “How do you take charge of your health and stop turning over your life to our confusing and intimidating healthcare system before it’s too late?”

Over the past 30 years, Dr. Schwartz has written four best-selling books, testified before Congress, hosted her own PBS pledge special on bioidentical hormones, and appeared on various news programs including CBS News, Larry King Live, CNN and MSNBC, as well as The View, Oprah Satellite Radio with Dr. Oz and many others.

She received her MD from SUNY Downstate’s College of Medicine in 1975, graduating cum laude as a member of AOA, the academic honor society. She completed her training in internal medicine and critical care at Downstate/Kings County Hospital Center. In 2005, Dr. Schwartz was honored by the College of Medicine Alumni Association with the Louis M. Hellman, MD Master Teacher Award. She is a past president of the Alumni Association and delivered the address at this year’s White Coat Ceremony for Downstate’s entering medical students.
