Fire engulfs historic post office in Manila

A massive fire has damaged the Manila Central Post Office in the Philippines.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, the blaze began at 11:41pm and was declared under control on Monday May 22 at 7:22am.

The fire began in the general services office, located in the basement of the building. The cost of the damage has been estimated as $5.3 million, according to local fire officials.

The Manila Central Post Office was built in 1926 and is the headquarters of the government-owned and controlled Philippine Postal Corp.
