"The Israeli occupation is undeniably threatening me."

Saleh al-Jafarawi, a prominent journalist from Gaza, warned just weeks ago that Israeli officials were threatening him by name.

He said the Israeli army spokesperson and others in Hebrew media had singled him out, calling him a target, but he vowed never to stop reporting.

He was killed shortly after celebrating the ceasefire, a brief moment of relief that he had hoped would allow Gaza’s people to breathe again.

Saleh had said, “You either live with your head held high or live as they want,” and he kept filming until the end.

Jafarawi was reportedly shot dead by an armed militia in the Sabra neighbourhood of Gaza City, as he covered clashes between an Israel-backed entity and Hamas fighters.

His killing is another reminder of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, where countless journalists have been repeatedly targeted for showing the world the truth of its atrocities.

During the genocide, more than 238,000 Palestinians were either killed or wounded by Israeli forces - whilst much of Gaza's infrastructure - including homes, schools, universities, mosques, churches, public spaces, and health centres were reduced to rubble.
