When spring comes, the Alpine Route is literally ‘carved through’ the snow. There are no other sites that can give this experience. Many people from all over the world are deeply impressed by the 18 meter high snow wall. Blue skies can be seen above the bus and white snowcapped peaks are visible between the walls of snow. If you wish to see the snow walls, it is recommended that you visit in June. Even in late June the walls are still over 10 meters high. As there are fewer visitors in June, you can enjoy a more relaxed sightseeing experience. Also, the weather in June is warm and more predictable. When walking on the snow fields around Murodo you may be able to see a white ptarmigan. In Tateyama, the Alpine ptarmigan are sometimes referred to as “messengers from God”. The birds will bring happiness to those who see them. They can be seen in Murodo from late May to June, especially in the area around
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route located in the central area of Japan and a mountain ranging at altitude of 3000 m level is a popular mountain route where you can enjoy a picturesque scenery of the magnificent snow from winter to spring.

Tateyama Murodo Plain, which stands at an altitude of 2,450m above sea level, receives some of heaviest snowfall in the world. The 500m-long snow wall is formed each spring on either side of the highway after snow is cleared for the opening of the Alpine Route. The awe-inspiring snow wall can reach a height of up to 20m, which is comparable to a seven-story building. One side of the road is designated for pedestrians, allowing you to walk between the walls of snow and enjoy the towering structures to your heart’s content. The walls are still 10m in height even in late June at the end of the season.


Tateyama Kurobe Alpen Route connecting Toyama and Nagano run through peaks of the north Alps. This route seasonally shows you different views and especially "Yuki no Otani" is famous where you can see 10 m high snow walls. After the closing period, there is a yearly event called "Yuki no Otani walk" from mid-April to mid-June near Murodo terminal, the base of the alpine route. This event is so popular among foreign visitors because you can stroll between dynamic snow walls or play on a slide made from cleared snow.
